Pixel Mine's UnrealScript Studio Takes Second Place in Unreal Competition
Pixel Mine's internally developed UnrealScript Studio development environment for UnrealEngine3 won second place in the Best Tool category for the Make Something Unreal contest. The winners were announced on Tuesday, September 16th at the Austin Game Developer's Conference.
UnrealScript Studio includes the first UnrealScript 3 source-level debugger to successfully tie into the familiar Visual Studio experience. It includes support for breakpoints, stepping, locals, user watches, the Immediate window, and the Quick Watch window. Even subtle features like hovering over a variable in the source code to see its value while debugging have been implemented.

Irrlicht 1.4.2 released
The Irrlicht Engine team just announced the release of Irrlicht version 1.4.2. This version of the popular open source 3D engine features a lot of changes like improvements of the file loaders, the OpenGL renderer, memory usage, optimization of the skeletal animation rendering code and tons of other bug fixes and small improvements. An updated version of Irrlicht's free 3D editor irrEdit has also been released at the same time.

ASSIMP - the Open Asset Import library - first public release
The Open Asset Import library, ASSIMP in short, has reached beta development state. Assimp is a C++ library which loads game-relevant 3D scene data from various file formats and returns it in a common in-memory structure. Supported formats are .3ds, .obj, .lwo, .x and several more. The imported data comprises the scene hierarchy, meshes, materials, bones, bone animations and textures.
Assimp is developed under a liberal BSD-like license and is therefore free to use and change for everyone. This is a beta release for testing purposes. Any feedback would be highly appreciated.

New Version of ShaderMap
Version 1.1 of ShaderMap, the 3d map conversion tool, has been released. It now supports conversion of height and normal maps to ambient occlusion maps. Other improvements include modification of existing tangent space normal maps, a streamlined user interface, and online documentation. ShaderMap Command Line (CL) is free for non-commercial use.
